Deep Local Roots with Fresh Perspectives

Teachers

GOOD TEACHERS ARE WORTHY OF OUR SUPPORT

When I think back to my youth and consider the adults who were significant influences in my life, many teachers loom large with respect to the influence they had in shaping who I am today. This occurs for many reasons. First, the kind of person who most often devotes their life to teaching is a special individual who endeavors daily to have that type of positive impact on their students. Also, next to our parents, we spend more time, both quantity and quality time, with our teachers for the first eighteen years of our life. From sheer volume alone teachers have the ability to impact our lives in a major way.

TRAINING AND MATERIALS ARE CRITICAL

Teachers need to be equipped with the proper tools to do the job to the best of their ability. They also need to be treated in a respectful and treasured manner to make sure that they continue to be happy and motivated to excel at what they do. Sierra Sands needs work in both areas.

MONEY IS AVAILABLE FOR PROVIDING THE BEST

As far as tools are concerned, most notably curriculum and textbooks, I will work to ensure that teachers have adequate representation in the selection process. I'd rather have too many teachers, rather than too few, involved in the process.

OUR STUDENTS' NEEDS WILL BE NUMBER ONE

Many teachers in the Sierra Sands Unified School District have felt like second-class citizens. There is no reason for this. It takes first-class individuals to excel in the teaching profession. They should be treated as such. The new contract in place is a significant help in moving in that direction. We must have clear, open, and honest communication to make sure that the positive relationship between teachers and administration continues to build.
